Batman Begins essay

Fear is one of the strongest human emotions. Strong enough that people chose to do things based on fear. Fear affects many aspects of someone’s life. This is shown in the movie Batman Begins. The main character, Bruce Wayne uses his fear of bats to pass along his fear to corrupt people. He also uses his fear to help people from these officials. Fear drives people to make selfless acts.
Because Bruce Wayne conquered his fear of bats, his character, Batman uses bats, his old fear, to fight the bad guys of Gotham city. He was afraid of bats since he was a little boy; he wants all the corrupt people in the city Gotham to fear bats as he did. Dr Crane was a corrupt psychologist in a mental facility, because he made his patients sicker than they were, after Dr. Crane did the same to Rachel, Batman gave him a taste of his own medicine. Carmine Falcone said “you always fear what you don’t understand”, he gave fear to the corrupt officials because they might have not understood him. When Bruce Wayne was talking with Carmine Falcone, because he was big shot he said “Now, I wouldn't have a second's hesitation of blowing your head off right here in front of them. And that's power you can't buy! That's the power of fear.” Because he is so powerful and knows that a lot of the people there that night were corrupt and he could end their jobs, and potentially ruin their lives if they spoke up against him. Henri Ducard said “Men fear most what they cannot see“the evil and corrupt people of Gotham City should fear Batman because they can not see him, and when they can, it is usually not good. Batman makes his actions to save Gotham city and the innocent people that these corrupt people are trying to kill.
Bruce Wayne uses his fear to help the good people of Gotham city like Jim Gordon, Rachel, and Mr. Fox and Alfred, and help protect the memory of his parents. His dad once told him “You know why they attacked you don’t you? They were afraid of you….all creatures feel fear…especially the scary ones”. Because he wants to protect these people, he will fight the bad guys of Gotham, he will do anything he can. But at times he can fear himself, like Henri Ducard said” But a criminal is not complicated. What you really fear is inside yourself. You fear your own power. You fear your own anger, the drive to do great and terrible things.” But he does what he feels he has to do for the good of the city.
Fear drives people to make selfless acts, just as how Bruce Wayne does as Batman. He wants the good of his city to prevail over the evil and corrupt people. Fear is a very strong emotion that can heighten all the senses .In the movie Batman Begins, the fear of the unknown is used throughout in different areas of the movie. Though it is first said by Franklin Delano Roosevelt “We have nothing to fear but fear itself!” the scarecrow says it in this movie.

To a Young Girl,A William Butler Yeats poem

To a young girl

My dear, my dear, I know
More than another
What makes your heart beat so;
Not even your own mother
Can know it as I know,
Who broke my heart for her
When the wild thought,
That she denies
And has forgot,
Set all her blood astir
And glittered in her eyes.

Thinking paper

I understand what Bruno Bettelheim is saying, and I agree with that in some fairy tales, like Peter Pan because I was adopted, and I believe everyone deserves a neverland.
I believe that fairy tales can be therapeutic, because we normally read them to children when they are young to calm them down for bedtime, and as well as criminals in jail, they read them to calm down too. You might be able to tell a lot of personal characteristics about yourself and other depending on the favorite fairy tale.
Depending on the fairy tale, you can reveal inner truths about you, and your inner self. They can be revealed in any matters of way, through Peter Pan by wanting to be little and safe, and never grow up, or by being like Snow White, taking care of everyone. As I will be using Peter Pan as the fairy tale I refer to most, seeing as its my favorite.
I have many inner conflicts, like the surprise of being adopted, and my birth mother dying, and of how I never knew, many other things like my sexuality, and most likely I haven’t discovered any others yet.
Only in Peter Pan do I see anything of being adopted. I see no comparison to even discovering yourself and what you believe in.
I believe that there should be a more cultural variety of fairy tales, which would make it easier for most people to connect with.

Place Paragraph

Near Times Square, there is a sanctuary called central park, a beautiful part of heaven, in this wild, noisy place called New York City. All around there are: trees, shrubbery, rocks, water, people, and their pets, and horse drawn carriages. Across the street it is back to reality of the real world that they call New York City. Now down many streets we finally reach Times Square bright, loud, but somehow comforting but at the same time overwhelming.
Down a couple blocks there is the building in which they make the New York Times, it looks like a postcard dark but not too dark, light but not too light, somehow a bit unnerving but nevertheless beautiful.
New York City is a whole world of its own it can be most things you dream of about or even see on TV or postcard. All in all New York City feels like home in a strange yet delightful way.

Delilah essay

Ernest Hemingway once noted “When writing a novel a writer should create living people; people not characters. A ‘character’ is a caricature.” By this he means, when a writer needs people for a novel, their personality should be modeled from real people’s emotions, not from their imagination. This is demonstrated in Monkeys by Susan Minot, through Delilah by her strength. Delilah is a character in the novel that demonstrates how an author brings a character to life. Delilah comes to life to the readers when she shows what its like to live in a family.
In the chapter “Hiding” the Vincent family is getting ready to go to church. While Mum was getting everyone ready, Susan Minot states “Delilah comes half-hurrying down the stairs, late looking like a ragamuffin with her skirt slid down to her hips and her hair all slept on wrong” (1 and 2). This relates to the reader, the one who goes to church sometimes, and understands how much time it takes to get ready for church. Delilah coming down the stairs late reflects how other kids are also late, but shows other reactions from parents.
In the chapter “Party Blues” Delilah’s personality was as anyone’s would be. She acted like any teenager would, she was in her own little world, and didn’t really care about her sisters, she was with her friends, and having a good time.
In the chapter “Thorofare”, when she threw her mothers ashes in the lake she had the same reaction as most people would. (157) It showed that she misses her mother.
